Part I — The Ballad of Colm the Baker

When does history become legend? … When does legend become myth?

Captain Jace Roharan has everything going for him young, charming, good-looking and with a prestigious post, commanding of the East Gate of the city of Kharrin, capital of the Kingdom of Ghakaan.

But, when a monster is reported terrorising the land, the King issues a challenge to the men of Ghakaan; to prove themselves worthy and become examples to the people of the Kingdom by seeking out the monster and killing it.

Jace’s superiors look to him to provide leadership for such a mission. But, secretly, Jace has been left scarred and cynical by his experiences of war and, within him, lie memories; ‘monsters’ of his own that could threaten to overwhelm him at any moment.

When Jace meets a young Lieutenant who knows the secret of how to kill the monster, he realises that he has no option but to follow the destiny that has been laid upon him. He must put aside his own misgivings and assemble a group of the finest troopers that the Security Force of Ghakaan has to offer, and go to face the monster and protect the people of the land; even though he must pay a great personal cost by jeopardising his relationship with the Countess Lynnia, who ranks high in the court of Ghakaan and is close friend of the beautiful – but somewhat disturbed - Princess Karenna.

At the same time, though, it becomes apparent that there are dark-forces at work within the Kingdom, and that an ancient foe of humanity is threatening to rise once again. Unknown to Jace, it may be that his destiny is being manipulated by the machinations of insidious forces whose fates became entwined with his own, many millennia ago!

WARRIOR’S HAND is the first volume of the ‘Jace Roharan Chronicles’ series. In this edition, it is being published in its three parts Part I - The Ballad of Colm the Baker; Part II - The Song of the Slyth; and Part III - Lamentations for Those Lost to the Shadows.
